Supervises:

Primary
Purpose:
Provide district support to building principals, special education teachers and support personnel, diagnosticians, LSSPS, OT/PTs, SLPs, general education teachers and counselors regarding legal aspects of the IEP and ARD process. Support special education teachers with case management of special education students, support development and review of IEP, and support facilitation of ARD meetings.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
* Master's degree or higher
* Valid Texas Teacher Certification (preferred) or other state approved certification or license
* Texas Mid-Management, Supervisor, or Principal Certificate (preferred)
* T-TESS Appraiser certificate
* Bilingual preferred
Experience:
* Minimum five years' experience in special education (preferred).
* Strong organizational and planning skills (preferred).
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate
Special Knowledge
Skills:
* Knowledge of Special Education federal, state, and local regulations.
* Knowledge of instructional arrangements needed to meet the instructional need of the students in assigned areas.
* Demonstrated knowledge off Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) PLAAFP, goal setting process.
* Accommodations/modifications, and statewide assessment determination and IEP implementation.
* General knowledge of curriculum and instruction: TEKS, Student Expectations, Vertical/Horizontal Alignment, RtI, Statewide Assessments, PEIMS coding, graduation requirements, transition.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain comprehensive documentation and records.
* Ability to work harmoniously with special and general education staff, parents, students, community, and administrators.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in written form and orally and to understand when each is most appropriate.
* Training in T-TESS in order to effectively evaluate teachers.
* Training in CPI.
* Collaborate with the Bilingual Department to ensure appropriate decisions/services are made for students through the ARD/LPAC process.
* Coordinate and manage ESY services.
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
* Collaborate with the Executive Director of Special Education.
* Determination of Special Education Teacher/Paraprofessional staffing allocations at individual campuses through use of Staffing Matrix.
* Determination of specific campus instructional materials needed.
* Planning of appropriate staff development for special education staff.
* Ability to resolve problematic issues occurring on campuses by working collaboratively with campus administrators and teachers.
* Knowledge of online IEP system in order to monitor student information (instructional setting, goals/objectives, statewide assessment).
* Knowledge in use of Eduphoria in order to monitor special ed. Student.
* Ensure identification and implementation of appropriate supplemental aids through knowledge and understanding of Accommodations Manual provided by the Texas Education Agency for use on statewide assessments.
* Provide instructional support in collaboration with campus staff, special education case managers and instructional paraprofessionals.
* Monitor case manager responsibilities including:
Routinely analyze data from benchmark and statewide assessment with the purpose of continually improving instruction to meet the individual needs of students including monitoring of student grades.
* Assist in establishing effective curriculum supports in the Special Education and General Education settings.
* Model lessons.
* Assist in the scheduling of students with disabilities.
* Assist general and special education staff in becoming knowledgeable concerning service delivery models, including:
Co-Teaching;
In Class Teacher Support (ICTS/Inclusion);
Resource class; self-contained classrooms.
* Remain informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education.
* Support special education teachers with parent contact.
* Provide guidance in determining staff development for teachers.
* Monitor paraprofessionals to ensure student needs are met.
* Monitor all Special Education paperwork.
* Maintain tracking records and reports as required in special education electronic management system.
* Verify student information to ensure accurate PEIMS data submissions.
* Provide special education staff with forms, logs, rosters, and data reports to assist in maintaining accurate documentation pertaining to student progress and IEP implementation.
