The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Education welcomes applications for the position of an Open Rank Professor and Practicum Director of Counseling
Salary Range
$70,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
This tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Counseling offers the opportunity to work closely with students, faculty, and community partners in preparing the next generation of mental health and school counseling professionals. The faculty member will teach graduate courses, supervise clinical experiences, and manage the counseling clinic, while supporting students' personal and professional growth. This role also includes scholarly research and contributions to the community, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that strengthens both the department and the broader university.
The position emphasizes meaningful connections with students, colleagues, and the community while advancing the mission of high-quality counseling education.
1. Teach courses in the Master of Arts programs in Mental Health and School Counseling, including clinical and field supervision.
2. Oversee and manage operations of the counseling clinic.
3. Develop and implement a scholarly research agenda, including publication in peer-reviewed outlets and presentation at professional conferences.
4. Pursue external funding opportunities, including grants and philanthropic support, to advance research and program initiatives.
5. Mentor and advise graduate students, supporting professional development and career readiness.
6. Engage in departmental, college, and university service, including committee participation, accreditation support, and community outreach.
7. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to enhance program quality and student outcomes.
8. Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, program requirements, and state regulations.
9. Participate in program and curriculum development, including course and assessment revisions.
10. Attend faculty meetings, convocations, commencement exercises, recruitment activities, and professional events as needed.

Required Qualifications
1. Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited institution.
2. Licensed Professional Counselor and/or School Counselor with at least three years of counseling experience in U.S. public schools or eligibility for licensure in Texas.
3. Experience teaching graduate-level counseling courses using Learning Management Systems and online or hybrid modalities.
4. Professional membership in counseling organizations relevant to the field.
5. Documented research productivity or potential for scholarly contributions.
6. Three or more years of professional counseling experience at the P-12 or clinical level.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Terminal degree in Counselor Education and Supervision.
2. Credentials or eligibility in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and/or School Counseling.
3. Experience supervising master's level counseling students in practicum and internship settings.
4. Demonstrated innovation in counseling education, including evidence-based practices and technology integration.
5. Record of professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
6. Experience securing external funding or participating in grant-funded projects.
7. Experience teaching across multiple delivery methods (traditional, online, hybrid).
8. Commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, including under-served and first-generation populations.
9. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in team and cross-disciplinary initiatives.
