Ector County Independent School District – Crockett Middle School – Odessa, Texas.
Job Title: Classroom Teacher – Exempt.
Reports to: Building Principal;
Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale.
Dept./School: Assigned Campus;
Days: 187.
Provide students with appropriate in‑person instruction designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth, and enable them to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned.
- Knowledge of assigned subjects; general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Student teaching or approved internship, preferred.
Curriculum Development and Instruction
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and include written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, administrative regulations and district guidelines.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to provide accommodations and/or modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods in accordance with district requirements.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers as assigned.
- Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Assess students’ accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
Classroom Management and Extracurricular Activities
- Manage student behavior in accordance with student code of conduct and student handbook.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Communication and Professional Development
- Establish and maintain open lines of professional communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Be available by phone, email or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students and/or parents.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Compliance and Documentation
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school policies and regulations.
- Compile, maintain and file all required reports, records and other documents.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Fulfill the terms of employment as defined in your employment contract or agreement.
- Follow all state, district and campus policies, regulations and procedures outlined in district policy, ECISD Employee Handbook, Campus Handbook and departmental handbook/guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned teacher aides.
- Serve as mentor to student teachers.
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer, phone systems, video/instructional equipment and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting.
Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists.
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
Environment: Work inside from school, home or other location; may work outside; regular exposure to noise, computer monitors and large groups of people.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
Position TypeFull-Time.
Salary$61,000 to $76,850 per year.
