JOB GOAL:
Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
- A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or another early childhood education credential approved by the Texas Education Agency
- A certification offered through a training center accredited by Association Montessori Internationale or through the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education
- At least eight years of experience teaching in a nationally-accredited child care program or a Texas Rising Star program
- An associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education‑ECE or a non‑ECE degree with 15 units of ECE‑specific coursework
- Documented completion of the Texas School Ready Training Program (TSR Comprehensive)
- Employed as a prekindergarten teacher in a school district that has ensured specific prekindergarten curriculum, instructional materials, and staff development requirements
- Has completed 150 hours of professional development in ECE‑specific topics over a consecutive five‑year period, with at least 75 of those hours in a mentoring or coaching relationship
- Completes 30 hours of ECE‑specific professional development annually, with 15 of those hours in a mentoring or coaching relationship until the total of 150 hours is documented
- Understand and support the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools
- Model and instill a love of learning
- Design and implement appropriate instruction of content area(s) assigned in accordance with school standards, curriculum, and student needs
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning
- Utilize a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the individual needs of students
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
- Conduct tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Maintain discipline in accordance with school rules and disciplinary systems
- Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
Attend department, school, district, and parent meetings - Participate in district and campus staff development and serve on staff committees
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Prepare required reports on students and activities
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments
- Takes daily attendance
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members
- Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ability to educate with age‑appropriate language and teaching methods
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Effective communication in written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the district
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proficiency in using computer software, databases used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone
- Ability to analyze data
Physical Requirements
- Light work: occasional light lifting may be required
- Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required
- Position is in a classroom setting with intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing
- Moderate travel is required
