Essential Functions

The TSI Mathematics Instructor is responsible for delivering high‑quality developmental and college‑readiness mathematics instruction aligned with state and institutional TSI standards. The instructor designs and implements daily lesson plans, provides engaging classroom instruction, supports student academic progress, and coordinates student participation in TSI‑related assessments by accompanying students to the university testing center. This position plays a critical role in improving mathematics, readiness, retention, and student success.

Position is temporary, ending July 31, 2026.

  • Design, develop, and implement daily, standards‑aligned lesson plans for TSI mathematics courses (e.g., elementary algebra, quantitative reasoning, or developmental math).
  • Deliver clear, engaging, and student‑centered instruction using a variety of teaching strategies (lecture, guided practice, collaborative learning, and educational technology).
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse academic needs, learning styles, and readiness levels of students.
  • Integrate problem‑solving, critical thinking, and applied mathematical reasoning into daily lessons.
  • Ensure students understand testing procedures, expectations, and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, lesson plans, and assessment of outcomes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental mathematics content and TSI standards.
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience in secondary or postsecondary mathematics.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage lesson planning, instruction, and testing logistics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
  • Experience teaching TSI, developmental, or remedial mathematics at the college or university level.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and testing center personnel.

  • Schedule

    Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm;
    Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one‑hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

    Standard Working Conditions
    • Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
