The University of Texas Permian Basin's Office of Research and Sponsored Grants welcomes applications for the position for a temporary TSI Math Tutor
Salary Range
$20.00 an hour.
Essential Functions
The TSI Mathematics Tutor supports the TSI Math Instructor during a structured instructional camp by providing academic assistance, reinforcing daily lessons, and supporting students during instructional and testing-related activities. Tutors work directly with students in small groups and one-on-one settings to strengthen mathematics skills aligned with TSI standards and promote student confidence, engagement, and readiness for assessment.
This is a temporary tutoring position for the TSI Math Summer Camp, scheduled from June 22, 2026, through July 30, 2026. Tutors are expected to work 19.5 hours per week during the program.
* Assist the TSI Math Instructor with daily instructional activities and classroom management.
* Reinforce lesson content through guided practice, problem-solving assistance, and clarification of mathematical concepts.
* Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to support students with varying skill levels.
* Help students apply effective study strategies and test-taking skills related to TSI mathematics content.
* Encourage active participation and maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
Required Qualifications
1. Current undergraduate or graduate student, or bachelor's degree holder, in Mathematics, Education, Engineering, or a closely related field.
2. Strong foundational knowledge of college-readiness and developmental mathematics.
3. Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and patiently.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Dependable, organized, and able to work collaboratively in a team-based instructional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous tutoring or teaching experience in mathematics.
2. Experience working with developmental, remedial, or TSI-focused math programs.
3. Familiarity with standardized testing preparation or academic intervention programs.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm;
Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
