Position Information
Working Title Graphic Arts Design Faculty Position Status Full Time Department School of Liberal Arts and Education General Summary
The Graphic Arts Design Faculty member is responsible for teaching assigned courses in Graphic Arts and Graphic Design while fostering student engagement, creativity, and technical skill development. Supports student success through effective instruction, curriculum delivery, and the integration of current industry practices and technologies. Works collaboratively with department faculty and staff to enhance program quality, promote student achievement, and ensure alignment with industry standards.
Contributes to the department's mission of serving students and supporting the overall mission and goals of Odessa College through high-quality teaching, mentorship, and active participation in departmental initiatives.
Specific Position Duties
* Teaches assigned courses within the curriculum, including Art Appreciation, Graphic Design, and Digital Media Design.
* Teaches web-based, hybrid, and face-to-face classes as assigned, utilizing a variety of instructional technologies.
* Teaches dual credit courses at designated locations within the West Texas area.
* Assists with student recruitment, advising, and retention efforts, and participates in departmental and campus-wide committees as assigned.
* Maintains current knowledge in the field, including industry-standard graphic design software, tools, and professional practices.
* Designs and delivers appropriately challenging coursework to support student learning and maximize student potential.
* Provides clear written course expectations, including syllabi, course policies, assignment instructions, and evaluation criteria.
* Develops and administers assessments appropriate to course content, including comprehensive final exams and/or capstone projects that measure mastery of course objectives.
* Promotes a learning environment that affirms the worth and dignity of all individuals and supports the right of all students to learn.
* Maintains a structured and engaging instructional environment (traditional, online, or hybrid) that encourages open exchange of ideas while upholding academic integrity.
* Prepares effectively for all instructional activities and arrives promptly for classes, labs, and other scheduled responsibilities.
* Presents instructional material in a clear, organized, and understandable manner.
* Responds to student concerns, questions, and feedback in a timely manner through class interaction, office hours, and appropriate electronic communication.
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree with 18 or more graduate hours in Graphic Design, Art, or a closely related field from a regionally-accredited institution.
* Computer literacy, including proficiency with industry-standard graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
* Demonstrated ability to teach both traditional college students and high school students in dual credit programs.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Excellent work ethic.
* Commitment to teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
* Professional experience in graphic design, digital media, or related creative field.
* Experience teaching in a community college or dual credit setting.
