To develop, lead, and manage a comprehensive school library program that supports student achievement, promotes literacy, and equips students and staff with the skills to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. The Library Information Specialist serves as an instructional partner, information specialist, and program administrator aligned with Tennessee academic standards and district priorities.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Library Information Science
- Experience in library services, education, or related field preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications- Valid and active Tennessee teacher license with an endorsement in Library Media Specialist.

Knowledge of Needs- Understanding of student learning needs, literacy development, and research skills.
- Knowledge of Tennessee Academic Standards and integration of information literacy.
- Awareness of digital literacy, media literacy, and college/career readiness skills.
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction.
- Skill in supporting research, inquiry, and cross-curricular learning.
- Knowledge of best practices in literacy and information fluency.
- Proficiency with library management systems, databases, and instructional technology tools.
- Ability to support and guide technology integration for staff and students.
- Understanding of digital citizenship and online safety.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and stakeholders.
- Ability to provide guidance and support in a collaborative environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage resources, materials, and systems efficiently.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
