Position: MANAGING LIBRARIAN - SOUTHWEST HISTORY & GENEALOGY

The Ector County Library is in need of a Managing Librarian to oversee the Southwest History and Genealogy Department, who will be under the supervision of the Library Director.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the Southwest History and Genealogy Department.
  • Supervise three full‑time staff members, including two passport agents.
  • Provide reference and readers advisory services, instructing patrons in Southwest History and Genealogical research, assisting in locating and selecting needed information and materials, and staffing the department checkout desk on a regular basis.
  • Assist in programming and perform public relations, including conducting tours of the department for patrons and students and acting as liaison with local genealogical and historical societies.
  • Handle budgeting and collection development tasks such as reviewing, selecting, ordering, and deselecting supplies and equipment for the department.
  • Perform notary services and assist with faxing and scanning documents.
  • Serve as a backup passport agent, assisting with appointments when needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Compensation

DOE (depending on experience) plus excellent benefits. Work days and hours:
Monday‑Friday and occasional Saturdays; 9 am‑6 pm and 10 am‑7 pm.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in library science, information studies, or a related field from an ALA‑accredited program is required, or the ability to obtain that degree within two years of the date of hire.
  • Prior library experience is preferred.
  • Successful applicants must provide a background check.
