The University of Texas Permian Basin's welcomes applications for the position of Academic Advisor I

Salary Range

$40,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The Academic Advisor I supports undergraduate student success by participating in the planning and delivery of academic advising services for individual students and groups. This position provides guidance on academic requirements, curriculum, university policies, transition to the college environment, and career related academic planning. The role also helps promote initiatives that improve undergraduate success by maintaining accurate student records, monitoring student progress, supporting orientation and student success events, and working collaboratively with faculty, academic departments, and campus services to help students navigate their academic path.

1. Provide academic advising to undergraduate students both individually and groups.

2. Provide students with information focused on meeting developmental academic needs, including transition to the college environment.

3. Determines nature of student's situation by responding to inquiries; interviewing students, auditing student records.

4. Provide timely information on degree requirements, core curriculum requirements, and university policies.

5. Maintain accurate data on students in secured electronic and paper files.

6. Monitors planned actions by periodic follow up; receiving, processing and maintaining required documentation; maintain databases; provide reports; and analyze information.

7. Participate in new student orientation programs, freshman year seminars/experience programs, preview days, and various academic and student support events.

8. Coordinates advising functions by serving as a liaison between students' faculty and academic department and other campus services.

9. Serve as a liaison and work collaboratively for school and academic departments by interpreting academic policies and procedures and curriculum issues.

10. Promotes goodwill with students and works in a professional cooperative manner with faculty and staff across campus.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree.

2. Excellent interpersonal communication skills; strong verbal and written communication skills.

3. Dynamic presentation skills for individual and group audience.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge of People Soft and EAB Navigate systems or any comparable advising technology.

2. Strong Microsoft Office Skills including Microsoft Teams.

3. One (1) year experience with college students or related experience.

4. Ability to work effectively with individuals.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm;
Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
