Operator Technician II

Calpine Corporation seeks an Operator Technician II to support safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our natural gas and geothermal power plants. In this on-site role, you will operate and monitor turbines, boilers, and auxiliary systems using field inspections and control systems, ensuring compliance with strict safety and environmental standards. You will respond to alarms, troubleshoot equipment issues, support maintenance activities, and document operating data.

Working in a team-focused, data-driven environment, you will help drive operational excellence and contribute to Calpine's cleaner energy and grid reliability mission.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor gas-fired and geothermal power plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable generation
• Perform routine inspections, start-up, shutdown, and adjustments of turbines, boilers, and auxiliary systems
• Respond to alarms and equipment abnormalities, troubleshooting issues to maintain plant performance
• Collect and analyze operational data, logging readings and preparing shift reports
• Follow strict safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures and participate in safety programs
• Collaborate with control room operators, maintenance, and engineering to optimize plant output
• Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities, including equipment isolation and tagging
• Assist in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability
• Use computerized control systems (DCS/SCADA) and maintenance management systems
• Participate in training, drills, and certifications to maintain technical and safety competencies
