Position Information

If you are motivated and interested in working with public utilities in coordination with TxDOT on roadway projects, this is the perfect job for you. Come join our team at the Odessa District and work in a fast-paced environment that helps bring more roadway projects to the Odessa area. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with good communication skills and enjoys building relations with external partners in the gas, electric, water/wastewater, and telecommunication fields.

Coordinates and performs technical work related to new utility installations and state and/or federally funded utility adjustments and relocations. Work requires contact with private entities and governmental agencies. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:
Utility Coordinator I
  • Assists in researching problems and coordinating solutions regarding potential utility conflicts and reimbursements; prepares correspondence.
  • Assists with establishing and coordinates activities between the Department, federal agencies, utility companies and other entities.
  • Meets with utility representatives and other entities to explain the utility accommodation policy and relocation and reimbursement processes, negotiate, answer questions to resolve problems.
  • Monitors the installation/removal, adjustment or relocation of utilities.
  • Prepares, processes and maintains documents, references and/or resource materials.
  • Assists with review and processing of new utility installation permits
  • Enters and maintains, with supervision, the electronic documentation and data in TxDOT systems are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Utility Coordinator II in addition to above.
  • Reviews and processes utility permits and other related highway permits
Minimum Qualifications:

Utility Coordinator IEducation

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
