Utilities Administration

Summary:
The Summer Intern position offers students and early-career professionals the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in municipal government. Interns will assist with assigned projects, support daily operations, and develop professional skills while working under the guidance of City staff.
The Summer Intern assigned to the Utilities Administration department will support daily operations and assist with departmental projects, gaining hands-on experience in plan reviews, assist with water and sewer design evaluations, and contribute to infrastructure projects by reviewing slopes, preparing job orders, and assisting with pipeline design plans.
Essential Functions:
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Assist with the review of engineering plans and specifications, including evaluating water and sewer layouts, slope requirements, and compliance with City standards.
* Support infrastructure project development by assisting with pipeline design plans, preparing job orders, and maintaining related project documentation.
* Support daily operational tasks and administrative functions
* Conduct basic research, data entry, or reporting as needed
* Provide customer service or internal support, as applicable
* Attend meetings, trainings, or site visits as assigned
* Follow all City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
* Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Must be currently enrolled in your junior or senior year of college for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Enrollment in a field related to the assigned department
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or relevant tools
* Interest in public service or municipal government
* Positive attitude
* Organizational & prioritization skills
* Communication skills
* Accountability
* Patience
* Must be sensitive to Corporate needs, employee goodwill, and business needs.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
Physical demands and working environments:
Interns will work up to 40 hours per week. Schedule may vary based on departmental needs and availability. Work is performed in an office, field, or operational setting, depending on assignment. May include sitting, standing, walking, or light physical activity
Internship Duration:
Temporary, seasonal position (Summer Internship Program). Start and end dates will be determined by the department and HR.
