Transportation Engineer I, II (Odessa TP&D)
The Odessa District is seeking a Transportation Engineer based in Odessa, TX, to manage multiple transportation schematic projects and environmental consultant contracts across the district. Reporting directly to the Advanced Planning Engineer, this position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in transportation planning within the Transportation Planning and Development (TP&D) Section while contributing to impactful projects that improve mobility and safety throughout the region.

This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer (Project Manager) level I or II depending on business need and the applicants' qualifications.
Salary Plan/Grade:
- Transportation Engineer I: B24 ($65,104.00 - $)
- Transportation Engineer II: B25 ($69,572.00 - $)

Position Description
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Transportation Engineer I:
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
- Monitors consultant design contracts.
- Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects.
- Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Transportation Engineer II (In addition to above):
- Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.
