Are you ready to help shape the future of transportation in West Texas? The Odessa District Design Engineer is seeking a Transportation Engineer to lead the development and delivery of transportation projects that improve safety, mobility, and connectivity across the region.
This position offers the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of projects from concept through PS&E delivery, including roadway safety improvements, mobility enhancements, intersection designs, bridge replacements, roadway rehab, widening, and interchange projects.
As a key member you will serve as both a technical leader and project manager, overseeing the development and review of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E), coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and consultants, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and in compliance with TxDOT standards and federal requirements.

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation
- Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Performs planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies
- Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting.
- Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer II in addition to above
- Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets.
- Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies.
- Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related task
- Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.
