Position Summary
Provides a professional atmosphere for reception, schedules appointments, answers telephone, relays and takes messages for the FHC staff. Responsible for gathering information for the various forms of payment sources including Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, etc. Obtains financial and family database information used in determining the patient’s ability to pay.
EducationHigh school graduate or equivalent required.
Training And ExperiencePrior experience in medical field preferred. Knowledge of, but not limited to, admitting/registration process, receivables management, credit and collection laws, billing forms, medical billing regulations, insurance benefit calculations, HMO/PPO contracts, third party funding resources.
Job KnowledgeExcellent customer service skills along with good verbal and written communication skills required. General knowledge of medical business office practices. Must have basic clerical skills, typing, filing, and ability to communicate with the public, providers, nurses and patients. Ability to work with computers, electronic devices, telephones, and fax machines. Must possess the ability to do multiple tasks simultaneously and pay close attention to detail.
Must be able to handle confidential situations with tact. Adaptability to dealing with the public, patients and hospital staff beyond giving and receiving directions or instructions.
