Position: General Services Worker - Event & AV Support
The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomes applications for the position of General Services Worker for Event & AV Support

Salary Range

$39,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The General Services Worker - Event & AV Support provides setup, technical, and customer service support for University events, classroom AV needs, and office/furniture moves. The position assists with all phases of event preparation, including room layout, furniture moving, and AV setup, with opportunities to expand into more advanced AV support as on-the-job training (OJT) certifications are earned. This role is essential to ensuring smooth, professional, and reliable support for events and campus operations.

1. Perform tasks associated with event setup and tear down, including furniture, staging, and basic equipment.

2. Support event scheduling and setups using systems such as School Dude and Ad Astra.

3. Receive, perform, and complete work orders related to office moves, event setups, and minor adjustments.

4. Deliver supplies, move and assemble furniture, and manage storage and staging areas.

5. Set up equipment such as tables, chairs, bleachers, banners, and other event items.

6. Safely load, haul, and unload vehicles for furniture or equipment moves; occasional trailer hauling may be required.

7. Operate forklifts, small box trucks, or other equipment as trained and certified.

8. Maintain a strong customer service approach when interacting with faculty, staff, students, and event guests.

9. Follow all State and University policies and adhere to established safety protocols.

10. Assist with training and mentoring newer staff as skills are developed.

11. After successful completion of OJT certifications, perform frontline AV support for classrooms and events (e.g., connecting laptops to projectors/displays, operating microphones, testing sound, troubleshooting basic user issues).

12. After OJT certifications, set up and operate AV equipment such as projectors, displays, microphones, speakers, and related systems for University events.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED equivalency.

2. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse groups of people.

3. Valid Texas driver's license (minimum of three years) and ability to safely operate University vehicles, including small box trucks.

4. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk or stand up to 100% of the time in accordance with job demands.

5. Ability to read simple floor plans and follow setup diagrams.

6. Ability to follow safety precautions. Job may entail moderate exposure to environmental and physical hazards requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.

7. Basic comfort with technology (connecting laptops, projectors, microphones, displays, etc.).

8. Customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. One year of experience in event setup, general maintenance, or a combination of education and experience providing comparable knowledge and skills.

2. Two years of work experience in event setup, general maintenance, or customer service.

3.

Experience with forklift operation, trailer hauling, or similar equipment.

4. Familiarity with classroom or event AV equipment.

5. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot simple technology issues.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm;
