SummaryUnder close supervision, performs basic building maintenance, graffiti removal and custodial services in City buildings and grounds for the Building Services Department (BSD).
Essential Functions- Performs basic building and grounds maintenance, graffiti removal and custodial duties, including minor repairs and small parts replacements in City facilities; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and BSD procedures; notifies supervisor of safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations.
- Learns to perform a variety of repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
- Support the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or GED required.
- 1 year of general labor experience, building maintenance and/or general building construction.
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Materials, equipment and tools used in cleaning and maintaining buildings.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Following and maintaining BSD safety standards.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of FBI criminal background fingerprint check in accordance with the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) standards.
Physical demands and working environmentWork is performed in City facilities; requires ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn. Must be available for a 24‑hour call.
Salary: $20.50 per hour
