Under the general supervision of the Building Maintenance/Custodial Crew Leader, the Building Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the City of Bastrop’s buildings. This role encompasses a variety of custodial duties, including but not limited to floor care, window cleaning, trash removal, and restroom sanitation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to follow safety protocols.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Cleaning and Sanitation: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors; cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass partitions; sanitizing restrooms and kitchen areas; emptying and sanitizing trash containers; cleaning and disinfecting public meeting rooms and office areas; dusting furniture and equipment; and restocking supplies.
• Equipment Maintenance: Operating cleaning equipment according to manufacturer's instructions; performing routine maintenance on custodial equipment; and recognizing and reporting equipment malfunctions.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols for handling and using chemicals, operating equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Communication: Effectively communicating with department supervisors, coworkers, and other City personnel to exchange or verify information, report and/or resolve issues, and address customer concerns.
• Other Duties: Assisting with facility maintenance tasks as needed, such as moving furniture or equipment, or making minor repairs; assisting others on the Custodial Team as needed; demonstrating a positive attitude at all times when communicating with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.

• Demonstrating initiative and diligence in the prompt and proper completion of all job duties and other duties assigned.
• Responsible for safeguarding City property.
• Maintaining confidentiality with regard to all City business.
• Performing related work as directed.

• Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, night callouts, and overtime as needed for meetings, special events, or during emergency situations as required.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations as required by the City Manager.
• Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Leave scheduled should be managed so as to not interfere with ability to accomplish tasks, including special projects and assignments with deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to read, write, follow written instructions, and comprehend standard English.
• Any equivalent combination of training, experience, and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record to maintained throughout employment with the City of Bastrop.

• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Physical ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug and physical screening.
