TTUHSC may initiate new H‑1B I‑129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case‑by‑case basis, TTUHSC may also sponsor eligible individuals for change‑of‑status or change‑of‑employer petitions for qualifying positions. The institution will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Directs and coordinates infection control program in the School of Medicine clinics. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Major / Essential Functions
  • Monitors APIC, OSHA, and Ector County Public Health Epidemiology websites for updates on employee health and infection control practices. Communicates education to Senior Director and managers as needed.
  • Performs, coordinates and facilitates systems audits for campus administration, including clinical, operational, and academic functions with policy/procedure review and/or development to address deficiencies and improve quality and efficiency for delivery of services/processes.
  • Supports and reviews Infectious Disease Exposure Policy in conjunction with the Section Manager and Director and the Infection Control Committee Chairman.
  • Daily tracking of HAIs, reportable conditions, exposures, communicable diseases, and LARC compliance.
  • Provides Infection Prevention education and develops infection prevention competencies.
  • Compiles Infection Prevention and Occupational Health compliance reports. Maintains accurate data for internal reporting and public reporting.
  • Assists clinical staff and providers in all departments in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives for infection prevention. Communicates professionally and effectively any performance initiatives to the Section Manager.
  • Prepares agenda items and presentations for the Performance Improvement / Risk Management and Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Functions in the capacity of the Employee Health Nurse role. Coordinates vaccines, immunizations, lab titers, and Blood Borne pathogen exposures per TTUHSC policy.
  • Manages annual Tuberculin skin test requirements for faculty, staff, residents, and students. Places and interprets TST.
  • Evaluates new hire health information for completeness. Advises on necessary follow‑up. Maintains system for notification of vaccination, etc.
  • Manages TTUHSC immunization program. Provides immunizations as required.
Occasional Duties
  • Fill in as needed for Risk Manager.
  • Assists in investigation of employment related complaints from TTUHSC personnel, as well as complaints received from hospital and service relationships.
  • Assists in investigation of accidents and injuries to staff/patients/visitors.
  • Reviews as needed instances of potential risks involving patient care.
Required Qualifications

Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. Current RN license in the State of Texas or the ability to transfer your license to Texas. At least one year of infection control experience and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years experience in infection control, employee health, and blood borne pathogen exposures in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
