DescriptionJob Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical and operational leadership for the Ambulatory Surgery Unit, including preoperative and Phase II postoperative care.
- Oversees daily staffing, assignments, scheduling, patient flow, and unit operations to ensure safe and efficient care delivery.
- Supervises, supports, and evaluates nursing and support staff; participates in hiring, orientation, competency validation, coaching, and performance management.
- Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, OR, PACU, PAT, and other departments to coordinate surgical and procedural patient care.
- Ensures appropriate assessment, preparation, education, and discharge of surgical and procedural patients.
- Promotes compliance with hospital policies, evidence-based nursing practice, infection prevention standards, medication management requirements, and patient safety practices.
- Maintains readiness and compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including CMS, state regulations, and organizational standards.
- Monitors quality, safety, productivity, patient experience, and operational performance and implements corrective actions or process improvements when indicated.
- Ensures staff maintain required competencies, education, licensure, and certifications.
- Participates in development, implementation, and review of departmental policies, procedures, workflows, and standards of care.
- Manages resources responsibly, including staffing, supplies, equipment, and departmental productivity.
- Identifies and escalates patient safety, staffing, physician, or operational concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
- Promotes effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and a professional work environment.
- Assists with departmental quality improvement initiatives, audits, regulatory surveys, and corrective action plans.
- Maintains clinical competency and provides direct patient care or operational support when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of Surgical Services operations.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas or current multistate compact RN license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- BLS required; ACLS and PALS as required by facility policy.
- Previous perioperative, ambulatory surgery, preoperative, PACU, or surgical services nursing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety, regulatory compliance, staffing, quality improvement, and surgical patient flow.
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
