Field Comp Tech Journeyman; ED

Overview

The Field Compressor Journeyman rotates on a 14/14 schedule servicing the Odessa/Midland area. The FCJ leads and trains other technicians while performing jobs on natural gas engines and compressors. They promote good attitudes among technicians to accomplish the job and assist the Regional Field Service Manager and Field Compressor Master Journeyman with daily job assignments and workforce planning.

• Perform tasks with minimal supervision and according to WPI and OEM standards.
• Develop other technicians.
• Read schematics, blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications.
• Determine the best possible procedure to perform the job safely and effectively.
• Perform Waukesha Service Bulletin upgrades as sent by factory.
• Inspect own work at each step, checking tolerances and correct fit that match OEM specs.
• Demonstrate excellent productivity for job tasks being performed.
• Complete required paperwork including service reports, PM sheets, JSEA, inspection forms, Waukesha startup and deferred startup forms, failure assessment forms, compressor inspection forms, etc.
• Work safely and maintain the work with high standards of housekeeping on location and in the service truck.
• Perform required preventive maintenance activities on company and personal own air tools, air compressor, truck, crane, etc.
• Implement lockout/tagout of every job assigned and review with crew.
• Own basic tooling for position (open‑end and boxed‑end wrenches 1/4–2", 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" ratchet and socket sets, air impacts 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4", screwdriver sets, hammers, sledges, and a Fluke 87‑volt ohm meter, at a minimum).
• Aid customers as requested on issues they are having.
• Other duties as may be assigned by management.

• Minimum of 4 years of gas compressor experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver license with a driving record that complies with WPI insurance requirements.

• Knowledge of OEM equipment and proficiency in troubleshooting both natural gas engines and compressors.
• Knowledge and experience with all tooling, including laser alignment, Hytorc, borescopes, and emissions analyzer.
• Advanced mechanical principles and mathematics.
• Blueprint and schematic reading.
• Proficient in electrical diagnostics.
• Proficient in computer skills (basic operation, Windows, and Microsoft Office).
• Knowledge of electronic controls such as PLCs, Murphy panels, Altronic, and ESM.
• Supervisory and leadership skills.
• Proficient in using precision measuring tools.
• Truck crane operation experience.
