Job Purpose
The Field Compressor Technician rotates on a 14/14 schedule servicing the Odessa/Midland area. The FCT works alongside a master/journeyman technician while performing major work on assigned jobs. Promote good attitudes and aesthetics that are represented d small minor repair or service jobs on natural gas engines and compressors. Daily communication with the Regional Field Service Manager and master/journeyman regarding progress or any special circumstances that could delay completion.
Promote safe work practices and ensure that JSA and all HSE requirements for the job are followed.
- Perform tasks as assigned by supervisor/management and/or lead technician.
- Perform tasks according to OEM specifications.
- Assist in the development of class B & C technicians.
- Able to read schematics, blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications.
- Determine the best possible procedure to perform the job safely and effectively.
- Perform Waukesha Service Bulletin upgrades as sent by factory.
- Inspect own work at each step, checking tolerances and correct fit.
- Demonstrate excellent productivity for job tasks being performed.
- Complete all required paperwork including service reports, JSEA, PM sheets, parts list, engine and compressor service forms.
- Work safely and maintain the work with high standards of housekeeping.
- Perform required preventative maintenance on company and personal equipment (air tools, air compressor, truck, crane, etc.).
- Apply lockout/tagout (LO/TO) procedures to every job assigned and review them with the crew.
- Own basic tooling for the position: open-end and boxed-end wrenches from 1/4 ‑2 , (3/8 , 1/2 and 3/4 ratchet and socket sets), air impacts (3/8", 1/2"), screwdriver sets, hammers, sledges, and a Fluke 87‑volt ohmmeter, at a minimum.
- Aid customers as requested and approved by lead technician.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor/management.
- Minimum of 3 years of gas compressor experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that complies with WPI insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of natural gas OEM equipment and proficiency in troubleshooting both engine and compressor.
- Knowledge and experience with tooling.
- Advanced mechanical principles and mathematics.
- Blueprint and schematic reading.
- Proficiency in electrical diagnostics.
- Proficiency in computer skills (basic operation, Windows, and Microsoft Office).
- Understanding of electronic controls such as PLCs, Murphy panels, Altronic, and ESM.
- Proficiency using precision measuring tools.
- Truck crane operation experience.
