Lead Electrician / General Electrician
Job OverviewThe Lead Electrician will lead work crews in the installation, inspection, and repair of district electrical equipment, systems, and circuits according to the National Electrical Code. The role includes maintaining accurate work‑order records, managing equipment and materials, and responding to emergency electrical issues.
Key Responsibilities- Estimate materials, order and obtain necessary purchases, and inform supervisor of requirements.
- Lay out new or modified installations per National Electrical Code and read blueprints/diagrams for correct wiring.
- Install electrical conduits, pull boxes, and related systems with proper workmanship and tools.
- Perform all functions in the electrical craft using proper procedures and safety equipment.
- Recommend purchase order requests and maintain tool, vehicle, and inventory records.
- Troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical equipment and components for safety and compatibility.
- Use test equipment to detect hazards and determine adjustments, relocations, or replacements.
- Set up scaffolds, ladders, and bucket truck extensions for multi‑story work and perform tasks in, around, and under campus areas.
- Maintain accountability of tools, equipment, and supplies as assigned.
- Procure necessary equipment and materials to complete jobs on schedule.
- Identify and resolve repair problems to ensure proper job completion.
- Maintain accurate labor and material cost records for work orders.
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality service, teamwork, and good public relations with coworkers, supervisors, and district employees.
- Operate within the policies and administrative procedures of the Ector County Independent School District.
- Be available for emergency call‑outs on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform any other tasks and duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Valid journeyman electrical license required in the state of Texas.
- Experience in electrical installation, inspection, and repair.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Employees must regularly stand, move, and communicate both verbally and electronically. They must use hands and fingers to handle tools or controls, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, and drive. Occasional sitting may be required. Employees may need to lift up to 100 pounds and possess good vision. Environmental conditions include moderate to high noise, exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electric shock, and outdoor weather conditions.
Travel to district facilities is regularly required.
