Responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications
- Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions and to determine that holes will not cause structural weakness
- Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
- Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine
- Thread pipe using threading machine
- Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending machine
- Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including brass, copper, lead, glass and plastic
- Join pipe by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints
- Use hand tools to secure pipe to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers
- Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping
- Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
- Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members
- May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice
- Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent
- 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school diploma or GED Certification (preferred)
- Applicable Pipefitter training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or approved third‑party certification body (preferred)
- Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations
- When on‑site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors
- Set a personal example of safe behavior
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Add and subtract two‑digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
- Other duties may be assigned
- Maintain in‑depth relationships with all members of their team and their supervisor
- Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
- May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks
