Thunderbird Services offers solutions for initiating formation communication for fracturing, plug-and-perf operations, and protecting laterals from equipment failures, including ESP issues, enabling customers to operate safely and effectively.

Role Description The Downhole Tool Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Odessa, TX. This role is responsible for preparing, assembling, and deploying downhole tools for a variety of production and injection operations, following company procedures and customer specifications. The operator monitors tool performance during field jobs, troubleshoots issues, and assists in retrieving and inspecting tools after use to ensure equipment integrity.

Day-to-day tasks include maintaining tools and equipment, loading and unloading vehicles, completing job-related documentation, and collaborating closely with field supervisors, engineers, and customer representatives. The Downhole Tool Operator follows all safety protocols, participates in safety meetings, and supports continuous improvement in operational efficiency and service quality.

Qualifications

  • Experience with downhole tools, wellsite operations, and basic mechanical aptitude for assembling and maintaining equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow job plans, work instructions, and technical diagrams related to production and injection operations.
  • Strong focus on safety practices, including adherence to company and customer HSE policies and participation in safety training.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for equipment issues and ability to communicate clearly with field supervisors and customer representatives.
  • Willingness and ability to work in outdoor, industrial environments, including extended shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and ability to travel to wellsites in the surrounding area.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior oilfield or energy-service experience is preferred.
  • Reliable work habits, attention to detail in documentation, and commitment to teamwork and respectful, inclusive collaboration.
