Position: Lead Navigator-1

Academic Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a human service field or related field or currently enrolled in an advanced degree program. High School Diploma or equivalent. If applicant does not have 18hrs of social work on transcript, a Family Services Certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire. INK will pay for the first certification test.

Preferred Experience

1 year of related direct service experience.

Summary

The Lead Navigator uses professional judgment and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to the service population, especially in crisis situations, while maintaining compliance with established program standards. The role supervises a team of two Navigators, coaches and mentors them, and ensures grant requirements are met and documented.

Essential Functions
  • Outreach and recruitment of participants for classes, including efforts to minimize attrition.
  • Directly supervise two Navigators and provide direct support and supervision.
  • Establish and maintain a trusting and professional working relationship with families by providing regular contact with Navigators through weekly check‑ins.
  • Ensure that all intake, assessments, and screening tools to clients and family members are completed and accurately reported.
  • Utilize intake and assessment results to establish and effectively implement goals, objectives, and activities identified with Navigators.
  • Record all group and individualized services and activities in a complete, concise, and timely manner using program forms and informational software/databases.
  • Meet with the Grant Director on a regular basis to evaluate the status of families on the Navigators’ caseload.
  • Provide training and technical support to Navigators, troubleshooting on behalf of grant leadership.
  • Make recommendations for community action to the Outreach and Data Specialist, which may involve executing plans independently.
  • Act as the first line of communication between clients of Navigators and clients for urgent feedback or program‑related concerns, independently problem‑solving on behalf of direct leadership.
  • Measurable Deliverables
  • Obtain and maintain certification in Safe Care curriculum administration.
  • Enroll and serve a maximum of five clients and provide sessions of services as per Thriving Texas Families guidelines.
  • Provide parent and health education, case management, resource and referrals, basic needs support, transportation assistance, and/or other support services to families on caseload.
  • Document all attendance on a weekly basis in informational software.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Provide community education on child abuse prevention strategies.
  • Develop together with the Grant Director and Outreach and Data Specialist updates, reminders, and community education information.
  • Requirements

  • Pass a pre‑employment drug screen and random drug screens and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass a pre‑employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past five years).
  • Demonstrate the ability to:
    • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio‑economic characteristics.
    • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.
    • Work in a fast‑paced environment.
    • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
    • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Travel locally as needed.
    • Manage time effectively and efficiently.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license (United States).
  • Follow all procedures of the INK personnel manual.
