Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - First Assist - $38-64 per hour

Registered Nurse (RN) First Assistant – O’Fallon, Illinois. The role is based in the Memorial Belleville operating room and provides full‑time day coverage with call requirements.

Job Overview

As a First Assistant, the RN works alongside surgeons to deliver direct patient care, collaborate with the perioperative team, and support decision‑making during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver intraoperative patient care as the surgeon’s first assistant.
  • Conduct pre‑operative focused nursing assessment related to the planned procedure.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and desired patient outcomes.
  • Monitor patients’ responses and modify the plan of care as needed.
  • Administer medications in accordance with standard nursing practice.
  • Develop, manage, and coordinate individualized peri‑operative care plans.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward achieving outcomes and systematically assess quality of nursing practice.
  • Participate in professional development, lifelong learning, and contribute to peer growth.
  • Educate patients and families, advocate for safety, and provide ethical leadership within the profession.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience:

    2–5 years of nursing practice; no supervisory experience required.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Current RN license.
Preferred Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Certifications:

    Certified First Assistant, Certified Nurse OR (CNOR).
