Company Description

Hartmann Turf & Tractor is a family-owned outdoor power equipment and tractor dealership serving residential, commercial, landscaping, and agricultural customers throughout the Metro East and surrounding communities. With locations in Swansea and Millstadt, Illinois, we provide equipment, parts, and service from trusted industry-leading brands.

Our team takes pride in providing honest recommendations, dependable customer service, and long-term support after the sale. We offer a hands-on, team-oriented work environment where employees are expected to communicate clearly, take ownership of their responsibilities, and continually improve their product knowledge and skills.

Role Description

Hartmann Turf & Tractor is seeking a full-time, on-site Salesperson to work at our Swansea and/or Millstadt location. This position is responsible for helping customers select the right zero-turn mower, tractor, handheld equipment, attachment, or related product based on their specific needs.

Daily responsibilities include welcoming customers, asking the right questions, demonstrating equipment, preparing quotes, explaining available financing and promotions, processing sales, and following up with potential and existing customers. The Salesperson will also coordinate with the parts, service, and management teams to provide a smooth experience before, during, and after the sale.

The right person for this position will be dependable, coachable, organized, and comfortable working within an established sales process. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, follows through without needing constant reminders, and communicates openly with both customers and coworkers. This individual should be competitive and motivated to reach sales goals while remaining team-oriented and willing to help wherever needed.

Previous equipment knowledge is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train someone who has the right attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine desire to learn and grow with the company.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Welcome customers and identify their equipment needs through thoughtful questions and conversation.
  • Recommend appropriate equipment based on the customer’s property, application, budget, and expectations.
  • Demonstrate product features and clearly explain pricing, financing, warranties, and current promotions.
  • Prepare accurate quotes and complete required sales documentation.
  • Follow up consistently with leads, open quotes, and previous customers.
  • Maintain accurate records using company point-of-sale, CRM, and sales-tracking systems.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the dealership’s products, brands, and sales programs.
  • Coordinate with the parts and service departments to ensure customers receive complete support.
  • Keep the showroom, equipment displays, and sales materials clean and organized.
  • Assist with promotional events, equipment demonstrations, inventory checks, and dealership activities.
  • Work toward individual responsibilities and shared dealership sales goals.
  • Take ownership of customer concerns and communicate issues promptly to management.
Qualifications
  • Previous sales or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow through on commitments.
  • Coachable and willing to accept feedback, learn new processes, and improve.
  • Self-motivated and capable of staying productive without constant supervision.
  • Organized and comfortable managing multiple customers, quotes, and follow-up responsibilities.
  • Able to work independently while remaining supportive of the overall sales team.
  • Comfortable using computers, point-of-sale systems, email, and customer-tracking tools.
  • Willing and able to learn equipment specifications, financing programs, and dealership procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work standard dealership hours, including Saturdays and some seasonal events.
  • Ability to work on-site, stand for extended periods, and safely assist with equipment demonstrations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with outdoor power equipment, landscaping, agriculture, mechanical products, retail sales, or dealership operations is helpful but not required.
