PW Maintenance - Water Lines

The Public Works Maintenance – Water Lines position is responsible for participating in the maintenance and repair of the City’s water distribution system.

Pay Rate: This is a union hourly position. Starting range: $35.28/hr without Class A CDL and $35.78/hr with Class A CDL. Pay increases by $3/hr after the first year and again after the second year.

Reports to the Water Foreman and other supervisory staff.

• Perform maintenance and repair on the City’s water distribution system.
• Operate and inspect system components.
• Repair main lines.
• Ensure regulatory compliance.
• Read, test, replace, and repair water meters.
• Perform utility locating.
• Problem solve.
• Use and operate various powered maintenance equipment and hand tools.
• Repair machinery, tools and equipment; general clean up; clean buildings and garage bays.
• Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, tool carriers, dump trucks, backhoes, mini‑excavators, and Vactor trucks.
• Provide backup staffing for emergency response (e.g., removal of snow and ice).
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the department.

Primary hours are Monday through Friday during the day. Extended shifts and overtime on weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required.

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with at least two years of public works maintenance experience.
• Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record or ability to acquire within one year.
• Certification or well‑documented training in water distribution maintenance.
• Proficient in using a personal computer (email, file management).
• Ability to interpret and apply relevant policies, procedures and regulations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with co‑workers and the public.
• Technical competence and basic electrical skills.
• Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment effectively.
• Ability to work in adverse conditions (hot, cold, wet, confined spaces, etc.).
• Physical ability to bend, squat, stretch, lift, carry, push and pull heavy items up to 100 pounds unassisted.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime and staggered shifts as needed.
• Live or relocate to an area that allows a 30‑minute response time to emergency callouts.
