AXG is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join a growing mining operation in Utah. This is a highly visible, hands-on accounting role supporting an operating asset as the business moves through an important stage of growth and operational development.
The Assistant Controller will work closely with finance leadership and site operations, taking ownership of key accounting processes while helping strengthen financial controls, reporting, cost visibility, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and help lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Manage and analyze inventory and production-related accounting
- Support cost accounting, including operating costs, variances, and cost trends
- Maintain accurate fixed asset and depreciation records
- Track and report on capital expenditures and capital projects
- Partner closely with operations, maintenance, and other site stakeholders to understand financial performance
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strengthen accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes
- Support external audits and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational visibility
- Provide accounting leadership and support as the operation continues to grow
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong accounting experience within an asset-intensive operating environment
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, and/or capital expenditures
- Strong understanding of month-end close and general ledger accounting
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
- Ability to partner effectively with both finance and operational teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment where priorities can evolve as operations grow
