Job DescriptionThe Automotive Technology Department at Weber State University is seeking a faculty member to teach courses required for the Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Courses include vehicle diagnosis and service across nine ASE areas and may include upper‑division courses. The candidate will also develop course materials, coordinate visits to dealerships and shops, maintain lab vehicles, recruit students, and collaborate with industry partners.
Further training in advanced vehicle technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles is expected.
The role is a full‑time, 9‑month teaching position starting Fall 2026. Applicants should have experience in the automotive industry and be willing to receive additional training.
Job DutiesTeaching and curriculum responsibilities include preparing and delivering courses, organizing shop facilities, maintaining lab vehicles, recruiting new students, and coordinating with manufacturers, dealers, government agencies, and independent service personnel. The instructor may also provide service to the institution and participate in related activities.
Required Qualifications- Minimum of three years of automotive industry experience
- B.S. Degree in Automotive Service Technology or equivalent instructor qualification
- M.S. Degree (approval from Automotive faculty and College Dean) for tenure‑track candidates
- ASE Master Certified A Series
- Proficiency with automotive service information and diagnostics support software
- Extensive automotive system, diagnostic, and service technical knowledge
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong motivation, independent work ability, and excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work skillfully with diagnostic equipment such as scan tools, lab scopes, DMMs, HVAC equipment, and vibration diagnostic equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and adaptability to rapidly changing situations
- Experience with classroom learning and working with internal and external stakeholders
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field
- Automotive Management background
- ASE L1 Certification
- Automotive instructional experience
- Automotive curriculum development knowledge or experience
- Public speaking experience
- Experience with electric and hybrid vehicles (xEV Level 1 and
2)
