Entomology Technical Director, Orkin Commercial West

Overview

Our Entomology team is growing! This senior leadership role serves as the Division Pest Control Technical Director within the West Commercial Division of Orkin, responsible for strategic, technical, and operational direction of pest control services.

Location:

Candidates must reside in Los Angeles, CA;
Sacramento, CA;
Salt Lake, UT;
Portland, OR;
Phoenix, AZ. Travel required, approximately 50% or more.

• Develop and implement the regional pest control strategy aligned with Orkin’s vision, considering emerging trends, risks, and client needs.
• Serve as subject matter expert for all pest management protocols, ensuring compliance with national and regional regulations, certifications, and best practices.
• Support division goals related to customer service, service quality, training, and customer retention.
• Act as primary technical contact for high‑value or strategic accounts, supporting sales and addressing complex client concerns.
• Provide input to the Rollins Innovation team to evaluate and implement emerging pest control technologies and digital solutions.
• Monitor and interpret changes in legislation and industry standards, ensuring proactive compliance and gap addressing.
• Oversee the technical budget for the region, ensuring cost‑effective allocation of resources.
• Lead technical investigations into pest‑related incidents, infestations, or client complaints and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, HR, and operations to align technical initiatives with broader organizational goals.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in entomology, biology, public health, environmental science, or related field.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in the pest control industry, including direct technical leadership and field experience at branch or region level.
• Professional certifications such as Board Certified Entomologist (BCE), Certified Pest Control Operator (CPCO), state pest control license, or equivalent.
• Strong record of regulatory compliance, health & safety management, and quality assurance.
• Experience working with diverse client industries (e.g., food manufacturing, hospitality, healthcare, residential).
• Proven experience introducing new technologies, methodologies, or products into operational settings.
• Demonstrated ability to manage regional budgets and deliver commercial outcomes.

• Technical expertise in pest biology, IPM, pesticide chemistry, application techniques, and safety standards.
• Regulatory acumen with familiarity of local, regional, and national regulations.
• Leadership ability to work independently, manage change, and drive performance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex concepts to non‑specialists.
• Analytical problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with scientific research.

• Candidates must reside within the Orkin West Commercial Division territory.
• Must be able to travel to branch locations, field sites, conferences, and partner facilities.
• Travel is estimated at 50% or more.
