As a Grade Foreperson, you will lead field crews performing earthwork, excavation, grading, utility installation, and site development activities on complex heavy civil construction projects. Responsibilities
  • Lead by example in promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across all jobsite activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily construction operations to meet production goals and project deadlines.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train equipment operators, laborers, and assigned crew members.
  • Read, interpret, and implement project plans, blueprints, grade stakes, and specifications.
  • Manage grading, excavation, compaction, utility installation, and site preparation activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate workforce, materials, and equipment needs with Project Managers and Superintendents.
  • Verify field layout, elevations, slopes, grades, and tolerances throughout project execution.
  • Monitor quality, productivity, and workmanship to ensure project standards are met.
  • Operate heavy equipment and assist with field work when required.
  • Identify and communicate potential schedule impacts, site issues, change conditions, or cost concerns.
  • Ensure equipment is operated safely, inspected regularly, and maintained in good working order.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, equipment logs, production records, and material tracking documentation.
  • Foster accountability, employee development, and teamwork among crew members.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in grading, excavation, site development, earthwork, or heavy civil construction preferred.
  • Previous supervisory, foreperson, or crew leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in grading and site development operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and grade information.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude with the ability to calculate grades, slopes, elevations, quantities, and production yields.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of grading, excavation, compaction, drainage systems, utility installation, and earthwork practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, surveys, and grade stakes.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team‑building skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements.
  • Ability to manage crews, equipment, schedules, and resources in a fast‑paced construction environment.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and operational excellence.
Work Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and travel to various project locations as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.
  • Must successfully pass pre‑employment requirements, including drug screening, physical examination, and background check, where applicable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, reliability, professionalism, and attendance.
