As a Construction Estimator, you'll play a key role in helping our client win and successfully launch civil infrastructure projects throughout Utah. You'll prepare accurate, competitive bids for grading, excavation, underground utilities, and roadway improvements while collaborating closely with project managers, field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. Your work directly supports the successful delivery of projects that strengthen communities and create lasting infrastructure.
Responsibilities include:- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from civil plans for grading, excavation, water, sewer, and storm utility scopes
- Develop complete and competitive estimates for residential, commercial, municipal, and highway infrastructure projects
- Review plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify project scope, risks, and cost drivers
- Solicit, compare, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Develop unit pricing for earthwork, underground utilities, structures, and roadway improvements
- Track public bid opportunities, including municipal, county, and UDOT projects, as well as private development opportunities
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to evaluate project conditions
- Partner with project managers and field superintendents to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to construction
- Maintain historical cost data and continuously improve estimating methods and productivity assumptions
Qualifications:
- Proven experience estimating horizontal civil construction projects, including grading, excavation, underground utilities, municipal, or highway work
- Strong ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications, and cross-sections
- Thorough understanding of earthwork quantities, utility installation methods, and site development sequencing
- Experience with public bidding processes is preferred
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software such as Agtek, HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Candidates with only vertical construction (commercial building or residential homebuilding) estimating experience are not a fit for this position
