The First-hand will be responsible for assisting the cutter/draper or Costume Shop Manager to take the cutter’s patterns and be the “first hands” on fabric. Their responsibilities include cutting costumes out of fabric, helping practicum students with instructions on construction of the costumes, and constructing costumes themselves. Other responsibilities include costume crafts, cleaning/organizing project areas, fabric/costume maintenance, equipment maintenance, and attending fittings.
Required Qualifications- Must be a current WSU student.
- Must be a Theatre Major with an emphasis on Costume Design.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year working in a costume shop.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year working as a stitcher in a costume shop.
- This position is 50/50 eligible; student must be enrolled full-time and have at least a 2.0 GPA in order to qualify.
- It is recommended that applicant has completed (with a passing grade) the Costume History, Costume Design, and Costume Technologies courses.
