Position: Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Critical Care

Description

This on-site, contract position offers an exceptional opportunity for an associate-level physician to deliver high-acuity patient care in a dynamic and supportive clinical environment.

As a Locum Critical Care Physician, you will play a vital role in managing critically ill patients, collaborating with intensivists, nurses, and multidisciplinary specialists to provide evidence-based, compassionate care. Your clinical expertise will directly impact patient outcomes, quality of care, and the overall effectiveness of our critical care unit. Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive critical care services to adult patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments, develop differential diagnoses, and initiate appropriate treatment plans chair
  • Manage mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and other life-support technologies effectively..
  • Perform invasive procedures as needed, including central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, intubation, and thoracentesis..
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care across shifts..
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare professionals regarding prognoses and treatment options..
  • Document patient evaluations, procedures, interventions, and outcomes accurately in a timely manner..
  • Participate actively in patient rounds, case discussions, and clinical quality improvement initiatives..
  • Respond promptly to rapid response team activations and emergency situations within the critical care environment..
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements..
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school..
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Anesthesiology/Critical Care, or a recognized equivalent specialty..
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the applicable jurisdiction (or ability to obtain licensure prior to assignment commencement))
  • Associate-level clinical experience in critical care, intensive care medicine, or high-acuity hospital settings..
  • Strong proficiency in managing complex medical conditions, multi-organ dysfunction, and hemodynamic instability..
  • Advanced procedural skills including airway management, central venous catheter placement, arterial line insertion, and mechanical ventilator management..
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)), and required critical care credentials..
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills with the ability to remain composed under pressure..
  • Ability to work a flexible on-site contract schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as determined by departmental staffing needs..
  • Preferred:
    Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine or equivalent intensive care experience..
  • Preferred:
    Prior experience with electronic medical records (EMR)) systems in an acute care environment..
  • Preferred:
    Prior locum tenens or contract physician experience in hospital-based or critical care settings..

Schedule:

7a-5p

Call Requirement: 5p-7a

Patient Volume: ~12 per shift

Required Procedures:
Airway management, central lines, arterial lines, dialysis catheter, paracentesis, thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, etc.

Support Staff: MD, nurses, techs, etc.

EMR:
Meditech and Patient Keeper

Board certification, ACLS, and DEA required
