Overview
Position:
Adjunct Faculty - Music Technology (MUSC 1515) at Salt Lake Community College. This is a pooled, semester-by-semester position with no guaranteed continued employment. The course typically serves as an introductory step in relevant degree pathways and is a prerequisite for subsequent courses. The position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.
Location:
On-site campus presence is expected to encourage in-person relationships and meaningful learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses.
As an Adjunct Faculty member, you are employed on a contract-to-contract basis, with no guaranteed future employment. You may be terminated at-will at any time. Maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
This position is subject to a successful completion of a criminal background check.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Teach in-person courses in beginning and intermediate music production.
- Instruct students in the use of music technologies, including microphones, MIDI, and digital audio.
- Teach music production using one or more standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), such as Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper, etc.
- Offer timely, constructive feedback on assignments and return graded work in accordance with department standards.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades for institutional and financial aid purposes.
- Inform students of their academic progress regularly and submit final grades by published deadlines.
- Respond to student inquiries and concerns promptly, typically within 1–2 business days.
- Provide ADA accommodations as requested and enforce FERPA guidelines.
- Adhere to all college policies, with particular attention to professional interactions and instructional responsibilities.
- Maintain professional etiquette and appearance in all communications and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Prepare and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior per the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
- Complete required employee trainings and maintain collegial behavior within the department and institution.
- Participate in departmental meetings, juries, and collaborative activities to support the music program and student success.
- Proficiency in at least one DAW (Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper).
- Strong knowledge of digital music production, including recording, mixing, and mastering.
- Ability to teach technical and creative aspects of music production in an engaging and accessible way.
- Effective communication with a diverse range of people and abilities to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations in a community college setting, including those with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated ability to teach music-related subjects, such as audio production, music mixing, ensembles, or introductory courses.
- Experience with one or more industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
- Experience working in workstation environments (Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton, Reaper, etc.).
- Master’s degree in Music, music technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching at the college/university level.
- Familiarity with Dante AV0IP and MIDI systems.
- Experience leading bands, ensembles, or educational music groups; relevant industry experience.
- Experience with curriculum development and online teaching platforms.
- Producer experience in a recording studio environment.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current industry practices.
