WSU PREP is an academic enrichment summer school for 7-9th grade students. The Program Assistants will work closely with teachers, fellow Program Assistants, and students to offer a challenging and engaging program. PAs work on campus Monday – Thursday with students, other PAs and/or teachers. The program curriculum is focused on math, science, engineering, and research skills. This position runs from June 1st – July 16th, with mandatory training on Thursday, May 21st and May 26th-29th.
Responsibilities- Assist in planning, preparation and coordination of special WSU PREP learning activities.
- Perform the duties of professional teaching assistants for the WSU PREP class instructor.
- Ensure safety and appropriate behavior of program participants.
- Attend classes and laboratories with students.
- Tutor students and help with homework as needed during class times.
- Grade homework and special assignments, quizzes and tests.
- Maintain records of student performance.
- Provide supervision during special events.
- Act as a near‑peer mentor to students.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of education at an accredited institution in a major or discipline related to the Summary of Duties, or an associate’s degree in a discipline related to the Summary of Duties is required. Concurrent enrollment credit hours count toward this requirement.
- Skill in leading classroom discussions/activities.
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to assess student work according to general instructional standards.
- Ability to supervise 25 middle school and junior high students in a virtual classroom setting.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Ability to tutor Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with students one‑to‑one or in small groups.

- Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee at Weber State for six months.
