A part-time Mild/Moderate Special Education Para educator position for 5.75 hours per day (28.75 hours per week), 180 days per year. Compensation according to Lane 4 of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.

Funding: This position is funded, in whole or in part, through grant allocations or enrollment-based funding sources. Employment is guaranteed through the current school year (or the upcoming school year if posting occurs during summer). Continuation beyond this period is not guaranteed and depends on future funding.
Purpose StatementThe job of Special Education Mild/Moderate Elementary Para educator is to assist assigned teaching personnel in supervising and instructing students with disabilities; perform classroom clerical tasks; assist students with personal care and health care needs; and help develop students academic, daily living, and behavioral skills.
Essential Duties (not exhaustive)- Communicates with parents for scheduling meetings and messages for special education teachers.
- Maintains students files/records for documentation.
- Monitors individual students in classrooms and school/community to provide a safe, positive learning environment.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support teachers and administrators.
- Adapt to changing priorities; demonstrate tact and courtesy; meet deadlines; set priorities; attention to detail.
- Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans.
- Supports students in various settings (special education classroom, general education classroom, one-on-one, etc.).
- Provides accommodations for students (e.g., reading tests aloud, scribe, alternate locations for assessments, check-in/check-out support).
- Supports classroom teacher in collecting data.
- Assists other personnel as needed to complete their work activities.
- Implements instructional behavioral programs under supervision to improve academic success.
- Assists with daily living skills as needed (e.g., toileting, feeding, personal hygiene) on an occasional basis.
- Other duties as assigned by building administrator or special education department.
- Attendance and in-person presence at the worksite are essential functions.
- Assists other personnel as needed to complete their work activities.

- Must be at least 18 years old.
Physical Requirements
- Postures: kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs for extended periods.
- Safely manage physically or verbally aggressive students.
- Lift up to 60 lbs occasionally to 36 inches, frequently up to 25 lbs to 36 inches.
- Get into and out of full-size 8-passenger vans.
- Sanitize and clean equipment (e.g., boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs).
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergencies.
- Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather; assist students with public transportation.
- Willing to participate in MANDT training.
- May require working with biohazards.
