Job Summary / Basic FunctionsThe Family Literacy Facilitator will work directly with parents and children in promoting intergenerational literacy activities and parenting skills. Must work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and situations. The majority of participants are low-income.
Job Functions- Conduct home visits.
- Teach assigned parents and engage parent and child in literacy and learning activities.
- Implement assigned literacy and parenting lessons during home visits.
- Communicate with supervisors.
- Conduct pre- and post- family literacy assessments.
- Maintain and keep current required documentation.
- Ensure flexibility in schedule in work hours in order to accommodate the family’s schedule for visits.
- Participate as an effective member of the Family Literacy Project team.
- Submit reports in a timely manner.
- Attend scheduled meetings and training.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , AND ABILITIES:
- Must be a Spanish speaker.
- Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
- Must be able to work effectively with all populations.
- Preference given to those with experience in working with parents and children.
MINIMUM
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Degree; experience serving families.
- Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies or similar field.
- Experience in parenting education, home visitation, and promoting literacy activities, healthy family interactions, and parenting skills.

Physical Requirements of this positionLight work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision. Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
