Job Summary / Basic FunctionProvide math tutoring to Upward Bound high school students during the academic year, Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and by appointment throughout the week, as requested by students. May occasionally implement grade‑level specific college preparatory math activities and lessons. This is a pooled position; applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications- Enrolled in a post‑secondary institution with a major in the pertinent academic discipline or evidence of equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring, and/or community service with high‑school level students.
- Graduate of a TRIO program or experience in overcoming the challenges and/or circumstances similar to those of the target population.
- Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately or quickly.
- Ability to receive detailed information with or without assistance.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing as required.
Visual Acuity RequirementsRequired to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, and to make general observations of facilities or structures.
Conditions of EmploymentThe worker will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work). Criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
