Job SummaryPlanetarium assistants perform multiple functions in the planetarium. They present shows to visiting K-12 students, help with show production, create curriculum materials, and perform several other duties in connection with the outreach and education programs of the planetarium.
Responsibilities- Present planetarium shows to K-12 visiting students
- Assist in show production and technical setup
- Create curriculum materials related to astronomy
- Perform additional duties associated with outreach and education programs
- Must be a student at Weber State University
- Must have taken and performed well in Introduction to Astronomy
- Experience in public speaking or speaking to groups
Hourly Pay Rate: $15.00
Physical RequirementsThe position involves extending hands and arms in any direction, operating, activating, using, preparing, inspecting, placing, detecting, or positioning equipment, grasping objects, applying pressure to objects with fingers and palm, expressing or exchanging ideas, and receiving detailed information accurately or quickly. Physical work may include light tasks with occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force or frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
Conditionsof Work
The worker may be exposed to noise sufficient to require shouting to be heard above ambient noise levels.
Additional InformationThe screening of applicants will begin immediately. A criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
Legal DiscretionDue to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as hourly or adjunct employees for six months.
