Weber School District is hiring a part‑time Mild/Moderate Special Education Para educator at Riverdale Elementary in Ogden, Utah. The position is 5.75 hours per day, 180 days per year, and is funded through grant allocations or student enrollment‑based sources. Continued employment is contingent on yearly funding availability.
Job DescriptionA part‑time Mild/Moderate Special Education Para educator will provide one‑on‑one support to a child with mild to moderate disabilities, assist with academic tasks, behavior management, and social‑emotional development, and perform classroom clerical tasks. The role supports the classroom teacher, maintains records, and follows the student’s individualized education plan (IEP).
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide dedicated one‑on‑one support to a student with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Assist with academic tasks, behavior management, and social‑emotional development in alignment with the student’s IEP.
- Communicate with parents to schedule meetings and take messages for special education teachers.
- Assist in maintaining students’ files and records for documentation of activities.
- Monitor students in classrooms, school, and community to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Perform record keeping and clerical functions such as scheduling and copying.
- Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support lesson plans.
- Support instruction in special education and general education settings, one‑on‑one, and additional environments.
- Provide accommodations such as reading aloud, scribe, alternate assessment location, and check‑in/check‑out support.
- Support the classroom teacher in collecting data.
- Assist with daily living skills such as toileting, changing diapers, feeding, and personal hygiene on an occasional basis.
- Attend to daily living skills and other duties assigned by the building administrator or special education department.
- Attendance is an essential function: physical presence at the worksite is required for collaboration, interaction, and access to on‑site equipment.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student‑size chairs) for extended periods of time.
- Safely manage physically or verbally aggressive students.
- Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches.
- Get into and out of full‑size 8‑passenger vans.
- Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
- Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather and train students to use public transportation.
- Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
- May require working with bio‑hazards (blood‑borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.).
