Pay: $14.50, with eligibility for a $0.50 raise each semester up to $16.00
Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesLearning Assistants are only offered in specific classes and typically require a faculty recommendation. Learning Assistants support students by:
- Attending the course in which they are embedded.
- Functioning as a mentor, coach, and tutor to students in the course.
- Holding review sessions and/or tutoring hours outside class to help students retain course material, including coaching students on study strategies.
- Attending training sessions as mandated by the Learning Assistant supervisor.
- May be considered for leadership positions once training is completed and if job performance is satisfactory.
- Must have taken a class that offers Learning Assistant positions and earned a B or better (or taken an equivalent class or higher level classes in that subject).
- Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, be reliable, confident in the subject area.
- Must have some flexibility in schedule.
Physical Activity of this position:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction, standing for sustained periods, moving about for long distances or between work sites, expressing or exchanging ideas accurately or quickly, receiving detailed information with or without assistance.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements: color, depth perception and field of vision required to perform tasks such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
