Pre-Medical Professional Advisor Job Summary

The pre‑medical professions advisor will report to the Director of the Ezekiel R. Dumke Family Pre‑medical Professional Programs, and will work closely with the College of Science academic advisors. The pre‑medical professions advisor will be responsible for advising current and prospective undergraduates and alumni of WSU’s and other undergraduate programs, serving as the principal source of information and advice about preparation for making application to graduate programs in the health professions (dentistry, optometry, medicine, veterinary sciences, pharmacy, etc.).

Note that advising about pre‑physician’s assistant, pre‑physical therapy, and careers in nursing are handled by the Dumke College of Health Professions. This is a 1.0 FTE position.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to let data (on admissions) guide practice
  • Demonstrated interest/knowledge of careers in medical professions

Physical Requirements
  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements

Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
