Job DescriptionA position has been declared open by Ogden School District for Instructors in OSD’s competency-based English as a Second Language Endorsement for adult teachers during the school year.
The ESL Competency-based Endorsement consists of five courses each lasting approximately 11 weeks. Each course follows a district and state approved model, designed to support licensed teachers in Ogden School District in gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to serve English Language Learners and their families effectively. Instructors will be paid $3,600 per course by Payment for Extra Services for successfully meeting the terms of the Instructor MOU.
Some of the five courses offered in the ESL Endorsement program will have more than one session each.
Under the direction of the Cultural, Linguistic, Diversity Teacher Specialists, the Instructor:
- Will guide endorsement candidates to be able to demonstrate competency in the theories, principles, and practices of creating successful learning environments for English Learner (EL) students
- Will create an environment favorable to adult learning and personal growth
- Will meet course objectives and other guidelines for USBE 3 credit courses
- Will instruct using formative data and research based practices to help endorsement candidates successfully provide effective instruction to OSD’s diverse language learners
- Will partner with the course mentor to help endorsement candidates implement and demonstrate course competencies successfully
The successful candidate demonstrates these characteristics and strengths:
- Utah Teaching License with an ESL Endorsement
- Master’s degree in an education related field
- Successful experience working with EL students
- Successful experience providing instruction to adults, ESL-related topics preferred
- Familiarity with both online and face to face instructional delivery methods
- Ability to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere conducive to adult learning models
- Strong commitment to endorsement participants’ success
- Successful experience in gathering and utilizing formative data
- Proactive communication
- Ability to work collaboratively with adults
- Adherence to professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
