This position is funded, in full or in part, through grant allocations or student enrollment-based funding sources. Continued employment (or the position’s hourly workload) is contingent upon the availability of future funding, as determined on yearly basis. There is no guaranteed of continued employment after the school year. Additionally, the location of this position may change and includes elementary, junior high, or high schools depending on need from year-to-year, if funding continues.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Student Educational Access & Opportunity Department, the school Principal, EL Support teacher, and District EL Support Team, the English Learner (EL) Program Paraprofessional, will support the implementation of the District English Learner Master Plan by helping to maintain student records; administering annual assessments; communicating with families and monitoring student progress; providing student language instruction and support;
and facilitating communication between families of English Learners.
- Provides instruction to individuals or small groups of English Language Learner students in a classroom, pull-out, or other learning environment.
- Plans and provides instruction and learning activities.
- Confers, as needed, with teachers, families, and the administrative team concerning student needs.
- Informs teacher(s), families, and the administrative team about any special problems or information concerning students.
- Assists teachers and support staff to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives.
- Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
- Assures student understanding of content/material being taught; answers student questions; assists student in reviewing assignments and test results.
- Administers WIDA screener and annual WIDA ACCESS testing.
- Performs and documents all federal processes pertaining to EL students.
- Builds home-school relationships.
- Communicates with parents to discuss students’ academic progress.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students and machinery.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, computer printer.
- Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building.
- Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects.
- Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Have the ability to observe details at close and far range.
- Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the classroom for various needs.
