Job Description

Electrical or Computer Engineering Instructor/Lab Manager. Applicant is expected to teach 15 credits per year of electrical or computer engineering courses and to spend 20 hours per week serving as lab manager for the electrical and computer engineering department (mid-August through mid-May).

Responsibilities
  • Teach 15 credits per year of electrical or computer engineering courses (which may involve teaching during evenings).
  • Advise students.
  • Train and mentor students on various types of equipment (e.g., oscilloscope, 3D printer, pick & place machine, reflow oven, PCB router).
  • Supervise and maintain microscopy lab and cleanroom.
  • Ensure all labs are kept clean, safe and secure.
  • Ensure lab equipment is functioning properly, perform quality checks and minor repairs, and handle returns of equipment for major repairs.
  • Check in and out lab accessories (e.g., scope probes).
  • Order and maintain lab supplies and components.
  • Assemble course-specific kits.
Required Qualifications
  • MS degree in electrical engineering or closely related engineering or physics, OR
  • BS degree in electrical engineering or closely related engineering or physics AND two or more years of engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor) and 3D printing
  • Experience with schematic capture and layout tools (e.g., KiCad or Altium), PCB routers, surface mount PCB assembly
  • Ability to program in Python, C, C++ and VHDL
  • Experience using Robot Operating System (ROS)
  • Experience with basic power tools (e.g., drill press and bandsaw)
  • Experience sourcing components
  • Ability to program Keysight lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes and function generators)
  • Cleanroom/Fab Experience

NOTE:

The nine-month workload may be distributed through summer semester if it is mutually beneficial. Salary range is $52,000 to $70,000 depending on qualifications. The position comes with a generous benefits package. Instructor positions are temporary appointments that can be renewed annually at the sole discretion of the University.

Physical Activity:

Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls.

Necessary for data preparation, reading, and computer use.

Conditions:
