Principal Systems Engineer to provide critical interface management and integration support to one of the Department of Defense’s most complex and vital acquisition efforts – the Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the modernization of the U.S. Air Force’s land-based strategic deterrent, ensuring its operational readiness and sustainability well into the 21st century.
This position is located at Hill AFB, UT.
The Sentinel ICBM Program, formerly known as the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD), is a massive, multi-faceted initiative to replace the aging LGM-30G Minuteman III weapon system. This career-defining program involves designing and integrating advanced ballistic missile systems, refurbishing or replacing key infrastructure, and fielding state-of-the-art command, control, and support systems. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will provide essential Systems Engineering support, playing a key role in the successful integration of the next-generation Sentinel ICBM system.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Your role as a Principal Systems Engineer will focus on providing technical oversight and management of the critical interfaces between Sentinel's complex subsystems. Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide support to the Sentinel System Program Office, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, power, software, and data interfaces are properly designed, documented, and controlled.
- Analyze and assess prime contractor's flow-down of system requirements, with a specific focus on ensuring interface requirements are complete, correct, and verifiable.
- Serve as an advisor in the Interface Control Working Group (ICWG), contributing to decision-making for interface configuration and control.
- Lead the review, assessment, and validation of contractor-developed ICDs, ensuring technical integrity and providing objective analysis to the government on proposed changes.
- Perform system-level technical analyses to identify and resolve issues associated with subsystem integration. Proactively identify interface risks and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure program success.
- Act as a subject matter expert during major technical and programmatic reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR), providing the government with independent assessments of contractor interface designs and integration maturity.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to execute engineering processes and deliver critical solutions. Develop reports, documentation, and presentations for senior stakeholders to communicate interface status and risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Systems), Physics, Mathematics,Computer Science, or a related technical field. With a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
- Active Secret Security Clearance, granted within the last five years.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in system design, integration, and analysis of military hardware or software systems, with a strong emphasis on interface management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with Department of Defense projects, including a strong understanding of the DoD Acquisition Lifecycle and experience in a SETA or similar advisory role.
- Familiarity with ICBM weapon systems and their associated components (e.g., flight systems, ground systems, command and control).
- Proficiency with requirements management and system modeling tools such as DOORS, Cameo, or similar.
- Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) is highly desirable.
